The Will and the Way

The phrase, “Where there’s a will, there’s a way” is often quoted to denote the possibility of success if you just put your mind to the job at hand and persist and keep persisting. Often, the will overcomes indomitable odds, and the way is therefore laid out before you. When someone uses their will to become especially persistent and dogged, they more or less create their own path, anyway.

It’s the difference between living passively and living actively.

Living actively means being aware of what you are doing, why are you are doing it, and what the results of your actions will be for others and for yourself. Active living means seizing each day with gusto and with purpose. It means deciding to preserve the earth by living in sustainable, eco friendly ways, even if everyone else is doing something different. It means quietly and purposely choosing your own actions, rather than needing to advertise what you are doing to everyone around you.

Passive living is much gloomier. It involves betting on the game of life, without actually insuring your bet. You passively hope and expect everything to turn out alright, when in fact your life is not completely under your control. You are giving up control of your life to the general populace, hoping that it will all be okay and that no one will harm you or screw you over. The truth is, you are simply not taking responsibility for what and does not happen to you. Living passively, you are not taking responsibility for what you do and do not allow to happen to you.
